  • Phoenix are an alternative rock band from the Paris suburb of Versailles consisting of Thomas Mars, Deck D'Arcy, Laurent Brancowitz and Christian Mazzalai.

  • Background

    Originally formed as a backing group to perform on a remix of the band Air's song "Kelly Watch the Stars." Adopting the name Phoenix in 1997, they released their first album United, in 2000. The album's single "Too Young" was featured in the 2001 film Shallow Hal and in 2003's Lost in Translation. While working on he film The Virgin Suicides, singer Thomas Mars met director Sofia Copolla. The two would eventually form a relationship and have a child together.
  • Daft Punk Connection

    Prior to joining Phoenix, guitarist Laurent Brancowitz (often referred to spimply as Branco) was in a band called Darlin' with Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, the band which eventually became Daft Punk. Darlin' named themselves after a Beach Boys song.
