Phillies Playoffs

The Philadelphia Phillies are the 2009 and 2010 Divisional champions as well as the 2008 World Series champions of Major League Baseball when they defeated the American league champion Tampa Bay Rays four games to one. The most valuable player of the series was starting pitcher Cole Hamels. The Phillies became the 2008 National League Champions when they defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 4 games to 1 in the NLCS. Pitcher Cole Hamels was named the Most Valuable Player of the series.

The previous year the Phillies featured all-star franchise players Jimmy Rollins, Chase Utley and Ryan Howard. The 2008 squad also depended on players Jayson Werth and Pat Burrell. The starting rotation included Joe Blanton, Cole Hamels, J.A. Happ, Jamie Moyer and Brett Myers. In the 2008 NLDS, the Phillies defeated the Milwaukee Brewers in four games. The Phillies won the first two games at home and lost the third game in Milwaukee, but finished off the Brewers in game four. In their third chance at attending the World Series since 1993, the 2010 team rotation consisted of Roy Halladay as first pitcher, Roy Oswalt as second pitcher, and Cole Hamels as the third pitcher in the rotation. The bullpen was anchored by closer Brad Lidge.
