Life and Career

Philippe Dauman was raised in New York City. He attended Yale University for his undergraduate education and Columbia University for his degree in law. After getting his law degree, he began working at the firm of Shearman & Sterling. One of the clients with whom he was dealing was Sumner Redstone with whom he formed a strong relationship.

When Redstone engaged in a hostile takeover of Viacom, he appointed Dauman to its board of directors. Before becoming CEO of Viacom, Dauman served from 1994-2000 on its executive committee as an executive vice president.
