Philip Roth is a Pulitzer Prize-winning American author of literary fiction.
Career
Philip Roth began writing short stories, movie reviews, and critical pieces shortly after leaving the Army. He published his first book, Goodbye, Columbus, in 1959. Roth's work is almost always semi-autobiographical in nature and serves as a vehicle to explore Judaism, gender relations, aging, health, and American society. He won the Pulitzer Prize in 1997 for American Pastoral, a novel in part about the social upheavals of the 1960s and 1970s.
