Philip Rosedale is an American businessman, and one of the creators of the virtual world Second Life. Within the virtual world he is the former CEO and represented by the avatar Philip Linden. On March 14, 2008 he announced that he would be stepping down from his position. His position was filled by Mark Kingdon and Rosedale still remains on the Board of Directors. Prior to founding Linden Lab (the creator of Second Life), Rosedale held a position at Real Networks as the Chief Technical Officer. He received this position after Real Networks acquired his company FreeVue, a video conferencing system. Rosedale holds a BS degree in Physics from the University of California at San Diego.
