Philadelphia Movie

Multiple award winning actor Tom Hanks teams up with star Denzel Washington in the emotionally charged movie called Philadelphia. The movie was one of the first to address the issue of AIDS discrimination. Hanks portrays a hotshot Philadelphia lawyer. His conservative bosses are unaware of his homosexuality and when discovered the character, Andrew Beckett is fired forming the beginning of the discrimination battle. Beckett, needing a lawyer to represent him can not find anyone to take on the challenge other than a homophobic lawyer, Joe Miller portrayed by Denzel Washington. In 1994, the movie Philadelphia was recognized with Oscar Awards in two categories. Tom Hanks won the Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance as Andrew Beckett and the song Streets of Philadelphia won the Best Music, Original Song Oscar. The song, written by Bruce Springsteen, was performed at the 1994 Oscars prior to the announcements that it was the winner for the year.
