In November of 2008, Savage received an email from a Browns fan criticizing his role as a general manager and questioning his decisions during a November 17, 2008, game. Savage responded to the fan, known only as Brett, saying "Go root for Buffalo—f--- you." Days after the incident was reported, Savage apologized to the fan and thanked the Browns' entire fanbase for the support they'd shown him since his hiring in 2005.The Plain Dealer: ... Career
Savage began coaching for the Alabama Crimson Tide as a tight ends coach and graduate assistant in 1988. He went on to coach the UCLA Bruins' tight ends in 1990, and then took a position with the Browns as their defensive backs coach in 1991. He later scouted for the Browns for three years before moving to the Baltimore Ravens, where he scouted for another eight years and eventually was named their director of player personnel.
