Tsunami
In December 2004, Nemcova was injured in Thailand by the tsunami that resulted from the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake. Nemcova had a broken pelvis and serious internal injuries however, she managed to hold onto the top of a palm tree for eight hours until she was rescued by Thai civilians and airlifted to an inland hospital nearby. Petra spent six weeks in a hospital. Her fiancé, Simon Atlee drowned in the tsunami and wasn't found until three months later. -
