Peter Laviolette is a former National Hockey League player and former head coach. Laviolette coached the Carolina Hurricanes from 2006-2008, leading the team to the Stanley Cup in 2006.

Career
Peter Laviolette spent most of his 10 year career playing for a number of minor league hockey teams. Laviolette played for five IHL teams and two AHL teams. During the 1988-89 season, Laviolette played 12 games with the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League. It was his only stint in the NHL.NHL.com: Peter Laviolette
After his playing career was over, Laviolette began coaching in the minor leagues. After achieving success in the AHL, Laviolette landed a job as an assistant with the Boston Bruins. In 2001, Laviolette became head coach of the New York Islanders, leading the team to the playoffs in his two seasons there. In 2003, he took over as coach for the Carolina Hurricanes. After missing the playoffs in his first season there, the team won the Stanley Cup in 2006. The team would then go on to miss the playoffs the next two seasons.NHL.com: Peter Laviolette
