Peter Gabriel is a successful English pop artist. Before launching his solo career, Gabriel was the lead singer and founder of the progressive rock band Genesis in the 1970s. He was later replaced by Phil Collins. Gabriel is involved in a variety of humanitarian causes. In 2007 he started The Hub, a website that acts as a media platform for human rights awareness, and the Elders a small, dedicated group (including Nelson Mandela & Jimmy Carter) of independent elders that helps to resolve global problems and ease human suffering.
Soundtracks
Gabriel has had many of his songs appear in motion picture soundtracks including Say Anything featuring the song "In Your Eyes" and Vanilla Sky featuring "Solsbury Hill". He created the music for the film 1988 The Last Temptation of Christ, and further developed the music into a full length album titled Passion: Music for The Last Temptation of Christ. In 2009, his song "Down to Earth" for the film Wall-E was nominated for an Academy Award.
