    Chiarelli played college hockey at Harvard, serving as the team captain. He went on to study at the University of Ottawa, where he received his law degree. Chiarelli served as an attorney for six years before joining the National Hockey League. His first NHL job was as a lawyer for the Ottawa Senators.     Chiarelli was named the General Manager of the Boston Bruins on May 26, 2006, and took over on July 8, 2006. In 2007, the Bruins made their first Stanley Cup Playoffs appearance in three seasons.
