Peter Budaj

  • Peter Budaj is a professional hockey player originally from Slovakia. He currently plays with the Colorado Avalanche in the National Hockey League.
  • Career Highlights

    Budaj began his career in 1999 with the Toronto St. Michael's Majors in the Ontario Hockey League. He was drafted 63rd overall in the 2001 NHL Draft by the Colorado Avalanche. Budaj continued to play in the OHL for one season, then joined the Avalanche American Hockey League affiliate, the Hershey Bears in 2002. It was not until after the NHL Lockout that he was called up to make his NHL debut, in 2005. Just a few months later Budaj represented Slovakia in the 2006 Winter Olympics. On July 13, 2006, he renewed his contract with the Avalanche as the backup goaltender to veteran Jose Theodore. In 2008, Budaj made his first playoff appearance as the Avalanche were defeated by the Detroit Red Wings in the Western Conference Semifinals.
