  • Perth, the capital of the Australian state of Western Australia, is the fourth largest city in Australia. It was founded in 1829 by Captain James Stirling to serve as the political center of Western Australia, which it continues to do to this day. Perth became known throughout the world as the “City of Light” because residents lit house lights and streetlights when John Glenn orbited the earth in 1962.
