Personality Disorder

    • There are 10 Personality Disorders in the DSM-IV-TR
    • Individuals rarely enter therapy for "Personality Disorders". Usually they think it's everyone else.
  • An enduring pattern of inner experience and behavior that deviates markedly from the expectations of the culture of the individual who exhibits it. (APA)

Personality Disorders differ primarily from other mental disorders in that they are ego-syntonic. That is, they seem to be a normal part of life for the individual and, therefore, are not considered a "problem".
