Persepolis (Comic)

Written and illustrated by Marjane Satrapi, Persepolis is an autobiographical graphic novel in which Satrapi recounts her experiences growing up in Iran following the Islamic Revolution.

Drawn in black and white, the book met with great critical acclaim and was favorably compared to Art Spiegleman's Pulitzer Prize-winning Maus. The book was followed by the sequel Persepolis 2 which follows Satrapi's teen years in Vienna and young adult life in Iran and France.

In 2007, a highly-acclaimed animated film version of the book, also called Persepolis, was released. The film garnered an Academy Award nomination for "Best Animated Feature" and took the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival.
