Persepolis is an animated film based on Marjane Satrapi's autobiographical graphic novel of the same name. The animation of the film closely resembles the art in the original graphic novel. In the film the "present day" scenes are shown in color while sections of the historic narrative resemble a shadow theater show.

Plot Summary
The film tells the story of a young girl as she comes of age against the backdrop of the Iranian Revolution, and shows how her family's hopes for change were slowly dashed as Islamic Fundamentalists took power, drastically curtailing personal liberties, enforcing head covering for women and imprisoning thousands; the story ends with Marjane as a 21-year-old expatriate. -
