Perry Como

Perry Como was a crooner who sang big band, pop, and swing. He hosted The Perry Como show, running from 1948-1963. On March 14, 1958, his single "Catch A Falling Star" was the first single certified gold by the RIAA. He won the Grammy Award for Best Male Vocal Performance later that same year for the same song.

Early Life

Como first wanted to be a barber. He opened up his own store after graduating high school. He joined the Ted Weems' Orchestra in 1933 and sang with them until they broke up in 1942. After an unsuccessful try at a solo career with CBS, he was cast by NBC producers to start the Chesterfield Supper Club radio show.
