  • The Pernice Brothers are a unique indie rock band founded in 1996 by Boston-based singer-songwriter Joe Pernice and his guitarist brother Bob Pernice. The band's first full-length album, 1998's Overcome by Happiness was released by Seattle indie giant Sub Pop, but subsequent recordings have come out on Joe Pernice's own Ashmont Records. The band currently consists of the brothers Pernice (although Bob participates less often than he once did), guitarist Peyton Pinkerton, bassist Thom Monahan, drummer Pat Berkery and keyboardist James Walbourne. The group's fifth studio album, Live a Little, was released in 2006.
  • Sound

The most distinct aspect of the Pernice Brothers' style is the unusual combination of chamber pop influences (such as Brian Wilson and mid-period Beatles) with subtle alt. country twang (courtesy of the Pernices' previous band, the Scud Mountain Boys). The resulting sound has been critically acclaimed, due in part to Joe's literate songwriting, sometimes reminiscent of Elvis Costello.
