Periodontitis or Gum Disease?
There is some confusion between periodontitis and gum disease; the two terms are often used interchangably. Periodontitis is one common form of gum disease that occurs when there is a bacterial infection in the gums. Although common, periodontitis can become a severe oral issue.Prevention
Periodontitis can be prevented early on in life by practicing good oral hygiene. Frequent dental checkups are also important to prevent all forms of gum disease. If periodontitis is suspected there are many different options to stop the progression, including debridement of the plaque or tarter along the gums.
