Pepcid is an acid-reducing drug used in the prevention of heartburn and in the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease and ulcers.
Mechanism of Action
Histamine stimulates gastric acid release. Pepcid prevents histamine stimulation, since it is a histamine blocker. Consequently, gastric acid is not released due to the inhibited histamine.
