The People's Party (PP) is the main opposition party in Spain and holds a majority of seats in the Spanish Senate. Supported by a Christian liberal-conservative platform, the PP is a member of the European People's Party in the European Union parliament.
2008 Election
The People's Party received more than 40% of the vote in the 2008 Spanish general election, but failed to defeat the ruling Spanish Socialist Workers' Party. The PP maintained its majority in the Senate, but lost the Prime Ministership and failed to gain a majority of seats in Congress.
