• Background

  Honoring popular entertainers in music, film, and TV, the People's Choice Awards prides itself on letting the public vote for its winners.

  Unlike the Academy Awards and other traditional award ceremonies, People's Choice nominates films and albums that may not have necessarily received positive reviews from critics. Though the award categories often change from year to year, the show has remained a staple on CBS.

  In 2008, the People's Choice Awards were canceled due to the Writers Guild Strike. Winners were instead announced on a prerecorded show hosted by Queen Latifah.
