Penelope Cruz

Penelope Cruz is a Spanish actress. She was born on April 28, 1974 in Madrid, Spain.

She won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role as a jealous ex-wife in the Woody Allen film Vicky Cristina Barcelona. In 2010, she became only the third Best Supporting Actress winner to be nominated for the award again the following year, with a nomination for her role as Carla in the big-screen adaptation of the musical Nine.

Cruz's first big roles were in the films Jamón, jamón and Belle Époque, which won her an Academy Award. From there she went on to play in the films All the Pretty Horses, Vanilla Sky, Bandidas, and Volver. Her more recent works include the films The Good Night, Manolete, Elegy, and Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

Cruz has a sister named Monica Cruz who is a dancer and a brother named Eduardo who is a singer. Cruz studied ballet for nine years at Spain's National Conservatory. She is fluent in the languages Spanish, French, English, and Italian. Cruz was romantically linked to actor Tom Cruise. Their relationship ended in January of 2004. She began dating actor Matthew McConaughey in 2005 but the couple split the next year. She is currently dating Javier Bardem, whom she met on the set of Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Cruz is also a self-proclaimed vegetarian and speaks multiple languages.
