Pearl S. Buck was a prolific writer, activist and humanitarian. She received the Nobel Prize and Pulitzer Prize for her book The Good Earth. She is remembered for her work on behalf of multi-cultured homeless children.
Career
While living in China Buck was tutored by her mother and learned Confucianism. She returned to the United States to attend Randolph-Macon Woman's College, graduating in 1914. Her first novel East Wind, West Wind was published in 1930. Buck went back to China to serve as a Presbyterian missionary until her resignation in 1933.
