Peanuts was a syndicated daily and Sunday comic strip that was illustrated and written by Charles M. Schultz. This comic strip was born on October 2, 1950 and the last comic strip published was on February 13, 2000 which happened to be one day after Charles Shultz’s death of complications of colon cancer. There were no new Peanut comic strips after the final one in 2000 and there never will be by Schultz’s wishes. The Peanuts comic that appears in our newspapers now-a-days are just reruns of the 17,897 comic strips drawn over the 50 year history.http://www.schulzmuseum.org/
Charles M. Schulz's Peanuts comic strip and the animated cartoon specials that followed represent one of America's and the world's most beloved collection of children's characters. The comics and cartoons centered around lovable loser Charlie Brown and his excitable beagle Snoopy, and also featured "crabby" Lucy Van Pelt, her security blanket-toting brother Linus Van Pelt, the strong-willed Peppermint Patty and her sidekick Marcie, and Snoopy's sidekick, a little yellow bird named Woodstock.http://www.schulzmuseum.org/
Big Big Business
The success of the Peanuts strip dictated that the series of cartoons be produced, and when the cartoons became annual American institutions, the floodgates opened for a host of merchandising opportunities that will likely keep coming for the rest of time. Books, videos and albums will always be in high demand, and indeed a Peanuts character can be found sponsoring everything from insurance (MetLife) to amusement parks (Knott's Berry Farm) to Dolly Madison snack cakes.
