• Assault Charges

  In June 2008, Speert pleaded not guilty to assaulting her business partner, Paige Snear Apar. Apar and Speert are partners and designers of boys children's clothing for the Jackson Clay Inc. store in southern California. Prosecutors in the case say that Speert and Apar were attending a trade show at the Javits Center in Manhattan when the two got into an argument over business practices. Speert is alleged to have hit Apar with a purse and then hit her in the face with a wine glass before throwing her out of the hotel room that the two women shared.

  Apar says she had not planned to report the incident until she was forced to receive treatment for the lacerations and other injuries she sustained.

  Martin Sheen, who along with his wife Janet, is an investor in Jackson Clay Inc. told reporters that the news was a "surprise" and a "shock". He and his wife were in court on June 26, 2008 to hear the allegations against Speert.NY Daily News: Sheen Show for Grandbaby Mama (June 27, 2008)
