Paul Winfield

  • Paul Edward Winfield was an American actor and musician born on May 22, 1941, in Los Angeles, California. Winfield was best known for his Emmy-nominated portrayal of Martin Luther King Jr. in King (1978) and his Emmy-winning portrayal of Judge Harold Nance on Picket Fences (1992). His breakout role came in 1964 when actor/director Burgess Meredith gave him a role in the one-act play The Dutchman and the Toilet.

    Winfield received the NAACP Image Award for Best Actor and has been inducted into the Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame. Winfield died of a heart attack on March 7, 2004.
