Paul Volcker was the head of the Federal Reserve under both the Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan administrations. President Barack Obama has appointed Volcker to lead the White House Economic Recovery Advisory Board, a group of economic advisers from outside the Executive Branch who will provide insight and strategies for reversing the recession.

On November 26, 2008, Obama announced that Volcker had accepted his offer to head the President's Economic Recovery Advisory Board.
