British actor Paul Scofield had an extended career performing almost the entire Shakespeare cannon. He rose to national fame playing Alexander the Great on the West End. He went on to perform Shakespeare all over the globe and received numerous awards, including the Commander of the British Empire Medal, for his efforts. On March 19, 2008, Scofield died following an extended battle with leukemia. He was 86.
