Paul Newman

Classic American actor and philanthropist Paul Newman's iconic roles have included Brick Pollitt in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, "Fast" Eddie Felson in The Hustler, Luke Jackson in Cool Hand Luke and Butch Cassidy in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. After a number of nominations over the years, Newman finally won a Best Actor Oscar when he reprised his role as "Fast" Eddie in 1986's The Color of Money.

Paul Newman lost his 18 month battle with cancer the evening of September 26, 2008 while surrounded by family and friends. He is survived by his wife Joanne Woodward and five children.Telegraph: Paul Newman (September 27, 2008)
