  • Along with John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney was one of the "Fab Four" known as The Beatles. As the bassist for the band and one half of the primary Lennon/McCarney songwriting duo, McCartney has been responsible for penning many of the most popular and influential songs of all time, including "Hey Jude," "Let It Be" and "Yesterday," the latter of which some claim is the most covered song ever written.

In March 2009, surviving Beatles members, McCartney and Ringo Starr, announced that they would reunite on-stage at New York City's Radio City Music Hall on April 4, 2009, in order to raise money to teach transcendental meditation to children internationally.CNN.com: Surviving Beatles reunite to promote kid’s meditation

  • Solo Career

When the Beatles broke up in 1970, McCartney embarked on a solo career first with the support of the band Wings and later just as "Paul McCartney." Although not quite as celebrated as the Lennon/McCartney catalog, McCartney's solo songbook spawned its fair share of hits, such as "Live and Let Die" (the theme from the James Bond film of the same name), "Jet" and "Maybe I'm Amazed."

McCartney continues to release albums and sell out arenas all over the world. In 2008, he and music producer Youth released Electric Arguments under the moniker of The Fireman; the album was the duo's third collaboration.

  • Recent Personal Life

In 2002, four years after his wife Linda died of breast cancer, McCartney married model and activist Heather Mills. The union would end in a bitter two-year divorce battle that would attract massive tabloid attention.

In 2007, McCartney began dating Nancy Shevell. The couple are said to be planning a wedding. Shevell would be McCartney's third wife.DailyMail.co.uk: Macca plans to wed new girlfriend Nancy Shevell (January 25, 2009)
