  • Career Notes

After working for various promotions (including WCW), Paul Heyman became lead booker for Eastern Championship wrestling in 1993. A year later, the name was changed to Extreme Championship Wrestling and Heyman began to take things in a different direction. Heyman encouraged wrestlers to develop their own characters and express their true feelings about WWF and WCW. Heyman soon became owner of ECW, making it the third biggest wrestling promotion behind WWF and WCW. However, ECW eventually went backrupt in 2001.

After the demise of ECW, Heyman was hired by the WWE as a commentator to replace Jerry Lawler. In addition to being an on-screen personality, Heyman became head writer of SmackDown. When WWE announced that ECW would become the company's third brand, Heyman was put in charge of the show. A backstage dispute over the direction of ECW resulted in Heyman being sent home by Vince McMahon. Heyman quietly left WWE in September 2007. Heyman now does an online podcast called The Heyman Hustle for UK's The Sun.
