Paul Haggis, director of
Crash, decided to leave the Church of
Scientology in
August 2009. In a letter written to the spokesperson of the church,
Tommy Davis, Haggis wrote, "I had to look no further than your refusal to denounce the church's anti-gay stance, and the indefensible actions, and inactions, of those who condone this behavior within the organization." Haggis went on to say that he is "ashamed" that he waited so long to act.
