Paul Haggis, director of Crash, decided to leave the Church of Scientology in August 2009. In a letter written to the spokesperson of the church, Tommy Davis, Haggis wrote, "I had to look no further than your refusal to denounce the church's anti-gay stance, and the indefensible actions, and inactions, of those who condone this behavior within the organization."
