Paul Greengrass

British filmmaker Paul Greengrass began his directing career during the 1990s, but rose to prominence after his acclaimed 2002 film Bloody Sunday. He directed both The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum and was nominated for an Academy Award for directing the 9/11 drama United 93.

Filmmaking Style

Greengrass films are highly recognizable for their handheld camera style, used to give the films an intensity and realism. This camera work first earned Greengrass praise on his documentary-style recreation of the massacre of Northern Irish civil rights protestors in Bloody Sunday. This style was used heavily in the second and third Bourne films.

Quotes

  • "By the time I'd done Bloody Sunday I felt I reached the end of a chapter. I could feel it. I wanted to try something new, something different."
