Patrick Kennedy is a House Representative from the state of Rhode Island. Representing the state's first district, Kennedy is the son of Senator Ted Kennedy. Starting his political career at age 21, Kennedy won the election to the Rhode Island State Assembly.
On June 12, 2009, Kennedy released a statement saying he had checked himself to a medical rehab treatment center. Controversy
On May 4, 2006, Patrick Kennedy was cited for crashing a Ford Mustang into a security barrier near his Capital Hill office. Claiming that he was not drunk during the infraction, Kennedy released a statement saying that he had taken the the prescribed amount of Phenergan, a prescription anti-nausea drug and Ambien, a sleep medication shortly before the accident. The officers at the scene were instructed to take Kennedy home and no sobriety tests were conducted.
