Patrick Eaves is a Canadian professional hockey player, currently playing for the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League.
Eaves was drafted out of Boston College, 29th overall in the 2003 NHL Draft by the Ottawa Senators. He stayed in school for two additional seasons, earning am Hockey East All-Star selection in 2003 and 2005, as well as All-American honors and the Hockey East Player of the Year award in 2005.
After college he played with the Binghamton Senators in the American Hockey League for 18 games, then made his NHL debut with the Senators in 2005. His efforts earned him a selection to the 2007 NHL Young Stars Game. Eaves missed 28 games during the 2007-08 season, then returned to the team and was quickly traded to the Carolina Hurricanes on February 11, 2008.
Eaves re-signed with the Hurricanes in 2008, missing time the following season with shoulder injuries. During the offseason in 2009, he was traded to the Boston Bruins, but placed on waivers before ever playing with the team. He luckily found a bidder in the free agency, signing with the Detroit Red Wings prior to the 2009-10 season.
Patrick Eaves 2009-10 Season
Joining the Red Wings for 65 games during the 2009-10 season, Eaves contributed 12 goals and 10 assists. He connected on 10% of his 120 shots and added 26 penalty minutes. Eaves was also key in the Red Wings success late in the season, rising from out of playoff contention to place fifth in the Western Conference to start the 2010 NHL Playoffs.
Patrick Eaves Shootout Fail
In this 2009-10 game against the Nashville Predators, Detroit Red Wing Patrick Eaves attempted to score during a shootout to decide the game. Eaves skated toward the net, but lost his footing and fell to the ice before he could get the shot off. Sliding into the boards, Eaves could be seen chuckling as he skated back to the bench.
