There are ten types of Patapons, including three new units—Toripon, Robopon and Mahopon. Each Patapon has unique strengths and abilities. For example, Toripons are incredibly mobile and can carry out powerful aerial attacks. Robopons have gigantic fists and they can dual-wield weapons to crush enemies in melee combat. There are eight drum rhythms to learn, which the player uses to lead the mighty army of Patapons. The player can level up individual units into Rarepon at the Evolution Tree, creating more powerful soldiers. The Hero Patapon, a fully customizable warrior, is another addition to the game. Use different weapon combinations or equip him with various Patapon Hero masks to give him new abilities. Patapon 2 also has a multiplayer mode that lets up to four players work cooperatively using Game Sharing. In each of the multiplayer levels, players work together to obtain a giant egg from a powerful enemy. Then they carry the egg to a shrine and perform a hatching ritual to obtain the mask inside.
