He has been compared in many news outlets to historical figure Joseph Merrick, also known as the Elephant Man.
The team of doctors, led by Professor Laurent Lantieri, replaced Coler's face with an unnamed donor's face in early 2008.
Since his facial transplant he has been able to leave the house without being stared at and has obtained employment as an accountant.
