Designed by architects Iktinos and Kallikrates, the Parthenon was built from the riches of the Peloponnesian War. Costing 469 silver talents, the classical Parthenon was built between 447-432 BCE. A gold and ivory Statue of Athena was erected and completed in 432 BCE by the sculptor (Pheidias). The Acropolis and all of its marvels are popular with tourists. Make the effort to rise early and pack a lunch for there is so much to see. The hot Mediterranean summer is the most popular time for tourists, but the site is open all year, except for major holidays. The summer hours are daily from 8 am- 7 pm and in the winter from 8:30 am to 6 pm.
Admission price is 12 Euro with a ticket that is valid for one week, and includes admission to all the sites of the Acropolis, and the Ancient Agora.
