Parkour

General Information

Parkour - is the art of the body in motion. The goal is to take the most direct route from Point A to Point B without losing any momentum (i.e. stopping and starting, slowing down, etc.).

Difference between Parkour and Free Running

People often confused Parkour with Free Running. Though many of Parkour's moves are acrobatic, they do not use excess energy for things like flips or spins unless they also conserve momentum and bring them closer to their goal.

Background

Parkour was developed and brought to fame by the Frenchman David Belle. It is deemed to be a non-competitive sport meant to enhance the connection with the body and mind. In parkour, a person will learn to get from object-to-object by jumping, tumbling, climbing and more using only forward motions. It is commonly practiced in urban areas with many obstacles such as park benches, walls, stairs and more. How Stuff Works: Parkour
