After a failed attempt at converting the film into a television series in 1990 (lasting just 12 episodes), NBC made a second attempt at making it a weekly series in 2010. It was originally scheduled to be part of the 2009 NBC fall lineup, but was pushed back because of the inability for the originally cast lead actress, Maura Tierney, to be a part of the series due to her battle with breast cancer.http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/television/news/e3i4c5798b5271bede4baf7bb7bd584cb02 She was eventually replaced by Lauren Graham.

TV Series

After a failed attempt at turning the film into a TV series on NBC in 1990, the network made another attempt in 2010.

The 1990 series lasted just twelve episodes and starred Ed Begley Jr., Jayne Atkinbson, David Arquette, Thora Birch, and future movie star Leonardo DiCaprio. Also a part of that series run was writer Joss Whedon, who went on to create the successful television series adaptation of the film Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

The 2010 series made it's debut on March 3, 2010. The stars of the series include: Peter Krause, Lauren graham, Dax Shepard, Monica Potter, Erika Christensen, Bonnie Bedelia, Mae Whitman, and Craig T. Nelson.

The newest version of the series was slated to be a part of the 2009 NBC Fall Lineup based upon a successful pilot. However, production was delayed right before starting because of the diagnosis of breast cancer in Maura Tierney, who was originally cast in one of the leading roles on the series. Tierney would eventually step aside from the series and would be replaced by Graham. Ron Howard and Brian Grazer are among the executive producers of the series.
