A parasomnia is any type of disorder that interferes with normal sleep patterns. A parasomnia can fall under one of two broad categories, primary parasomnias or secondary parasomnias. While primary parasomnias involve the disruption of a person's sleep state alone, secondary parasomnias stem from another organ of the body disrupting a person's sleep pattern.Cleveland Clinic: Parasomnias
