Paranormal Activity is a horror film by Oren Peli which stars Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat, and as is shot in Faux-Documentary style. It was shot for a mere $15,000 and is being promoted as "one of the scariest movies of all time."
It will go into wide-release when one million people "demand it." On October 9-11th, it made $7.9 million from only 159 theatres. This set a record for per screen average ($44,440) for any movie playing on over 80 theatres.
The film is about a happy couple named Katie and Micah, who begin to notice strange things occurring in their house and eventually come to believe that it is being haunted by ghosts in the middle of the night. To test their theory, Katie and Micah purchase a video camera and document the nocturnal activity going on as they sleep.
Paranormal Activity was written and directed by Oren Peli and was produced by Jason Blum, Oren Peli, Steven Schneider, Toni Taylor and Amir Zbeda. The film was shown at 2007's Screamfest and at the Slamdance Film Festival in 2008.
