Taking place several decades after the events in 1995's Panzer Dragoon, Panzer Dragoon Orta begins with a cinematic cutscene that sets up the story: the Empire has grown far too powerful, and has created genetically engineered dragons called “Dragonmares” to spread and sustain their power over the land. Meanwhile in Yelico Valley, a girl named Orta is held prisoner in a tower by a cruel society called The Seekers, who prophesy that Orta is a symbol of their future doom. Orta has no contacts, no freedom and no memory of her past. However, by a chance series of events Orta is a broken out of her cell by a a group of attacking Dragonmares. The “Dragon of Destruction,” a good-natured Dragonmare, rescues Orta and flies away with her. With the assistance of the dragon, Orta sets out to storm the Empire, defeat their military forces and undo their destructive plan.
