A pair of pants is a piece of clothing used to cover the waist down to the knees or longer. They come in many varieties and are often classified by the shape, length, or material from which they are made.

There are many varieties of pants, from jeans and chinos to gauchos and Capri pants. Here are a few buying tips to sort out all the choices.

Before buying pants be sure and know the size. Take measurements of waist, hips, inseam and pant length, or take the size from a favorite, well fitting pair of pants.

As with any pair of clothing, always try on before purchasing. Make sure the pants are comfortable and look good. If possible bring along accessories to see how they look together.

Choose pants that highlight best features. Black pants are slimming, while Capri pants show of great ankles and calves.
