• Before Panties

  Before panties or knickers there was the concept of the biblical fig leaf and soon after, the wearing of a loincloth. Both created a covering for the male and female's below the waist area. In historical research the loincloth dated back 7,000 years and was made of leather. It was once worn by all, but soon became worn only by slaves, when the Greeks and Romans began wearing undergarments made of silk or sometimes choosing to wear nothing at all.

• Panties Become Popular

  It wasn't until the Industrial Age and the invention of the cotton gin that a mass production of underwear became available. This fashion evolution moved swiftly into the new century of the 1900's, where white cotton became replaced with nylon and spandex as simple evolved into sexy.
