Pandora battery hacks allow the user to unbrick (or restore) a PSP that has previously had a hack attempt fail and thus been bricked (or locked up). The hack utilizes a service mode on the PSP and a special trigger battery, appropriately named "pandora."Engadget: Pandora's battery hack... (August 23, 2007)

Background
The pandora battery hack is the result of the combined research of several Internet hackers determined to break the PSP's brick mode. Several steps were taken to produce the successful outcome. First, the team reverse engineered the service mode used by Sony technicians. Then they developed a way to change an ordinary PSP battery into a service mode trigger. The team also developed a customized version of the IPL code as well as a way for the PSP to authenticate the custom code.N00bz: Pandora's Battery (August 22, 2007) -
How it Works
By running a software program on a homebrew-enabled PSP system, you can convert a regular PSP battery into a "jigkick" or "pandora" battery. Next, you create an unbrick memory stick image built from the 1.5 update EBOOT, and install it on the memory stick. To use the battery and memory stick to unbrick a PSP, simply install both into the PSP. It will be reverted to the 1.5 firmware.N00bz: Pandora's Battery (August 22, 2007)
