Panda Express is a Americanized Chinese fast food restaurant chain. Panda Express restaurants are primarily located in high-traffic locations such as malls, airports, train stations, theme parks and college campuses. It is one of the chains of Chinese fast food restaurants in the United States. In total the restaurant chain has 1,054 restaurants covering 37 U.S. states and Puerto Rico, as well as 2 locations in Japan. The company's highest revenue location, bringing in over $4 million annually, is located at the Ala Moana Center food court in Honolulu, Hawaii.
History
The Panda Restaurant Group was founded by Andrew and Peggy Cherng and Andrew's father, Master Chef Robert Cherng with their first Panda Inn restaurant in 1973 in Pasadena, California. The Cherngs hail from the Yangzhou region of China's Jiangsu province.
