  • Brief Biography

Born in North Carolina, Grier moved to Los Angeles in 1967 and was discovered by offbeat director Roger Corman who cast the young actress in his 1971 low-budget B-movies Women in Cages and The Big Doll House. She began to appear as a female lead, usually bent on revenge, in such 1970s hits as Foxy Brown, Scream Blacula Scream, and Coffy. While blaxploitation films became less popular in the 1980s, she still secured roles in such films as Fort Apache: The Bronx and Something Wicked This Way Comes in the 1980s. Her role in Tarantino's Jackie Brown earned her a Golden Globe nomination and since then, she has appeared in many other films, and has also had a recurring role as the character Kit Porter on the Showtime series The L Word.
