Palomino Horse

The Palomino horse is not a specific breed of horse, but rather a coat color that is typically gold with a white mane and tail.

History

Palominos in the United States are believed to have been brought by the Spaniards when they explored the New World. When the explorers left their horses behind, the Native Americans would capture the wild palominos, break them in and ride them both to hunt game and to go into battle.Palomino Horse Breeders of America: [1]

Color Standards

A palomino must have either a creamy white, gold or chocolate-colored coat with a mane and tail of white, silver or ivory. There can be no more than 15% of dark or chestnut hair in either the mane or tail.Australian Palomino Horse Association: [1]
